Sometimes you just have to wonder what's going on inside the head of potential Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens.
Ok, to be honest, MOST of the time you have to wonder what the heck this guy is thinking. Known as a, um, flamboyant personality, Owens has been in the spotlight for almost his entire career in the NFL, and not always in a good way.
Owens has made amazing highlights on the field, having games and seasons that rank right up there with the best ever. He's also almost singlehandedly responsible for the NFL tightening up on touchdown celebrations, to the point where you can't even sneeze emphatically after scoring without catching a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty.
Now, as his career is almost over, Owens is taking that questionable judgment and implementing it in other facets of his life. The latest example of this occurred Tuesday afternoon, when Owens appeared on the Dr. Phil show to be confronted by three women who say the NFL star is behind on his child support payments and is a no-show as a father.
Dr Phil started out the show easy on Owens, praising his career and stating his belief that the wideout has been criticized way to much. He also pointed out and read an opening to a children's book that Owens recently did, an opening where Owens dedicated it to his children.
It wasn't long, though, before things started to get ugly as multiple women came out to light up Owens for his lack of communication with his children. The first woman, a former wife, said that Owens hasn't seen his 7 year old daughter in over a year and that he doesn't call or send presents, even for Christmas.
When asked about this, Owens conceded, saying he didn't know how long it's been since he's seen her.
"The thing is, with me traveling back and forth, I don't have a set schedule," Owens said, adding that when he had reached out that, "Pretty much 90 percent of the time, every time I've reached out it's been a bad time."
Next up is wife No. 2, who says that she can never get in touch with Owens.
Owens then admits that he hasn't seen this daughter for at least a year as well, but that in his defense, the last time he tried to arrange a meeting the wife insisted he pay for her plane ticket as well as his daughters.
Finally mother No.3 shows up, claiming that the only time Owens has ever been with her son, Owens' oldest, is when he was trying to use him to bolster the receiver's image.
Overall, Owens has four children with four different women and pays roughly $50,000 a month in child support, a figure that Owens is trying to get reduced. The situation, as a whole, seemed to stun Dr. Phil, who couldn't believe that none of these women used proper precautions to prevent getting pregnant.
As per Hollywood, the show ended in typical fashion, with a teary reuniting.
With the credits rolling, the cameras zoom in on Owens off the stage, getting together with his two daughters. He asks them: "Have you been to Magic Mountain? Maybe I can take you guys to Magic Mountain. You can ride the roller coaster."
Owen then kisses both on the cheek and tells them "I love you" as the show winds up, ending yet another example of Terrell Owens, the entertainer, and his quest to continuously be in the spotlight, even at the expense of his own pride and his children's pain.
Well, at least if Owens doesn't get on with an NFL team this upcoming season, maybe he can parlay this appearance into a reality show. With T.O., nothing would surprise, or shock, anyone anymore.
