Browns Seek Offensive Firepower.

With the choice of Phil Taylor (DT) and Joe Haden (CB) in the opening round of the NFL Draft the past two years, the Browns ended a streak of selecting offensive players in seven of their last eight first round picks dating back to 2002.

This April, it seems very logical to say that Cleveland will take an offensive player with their fourth choice overall. Browns’ General Manager Tom Heckert has stated that Cleveland has no interest of trading up one spot and would consider dealing down as far as the eighth pick.

Many insiders have speculated the Browns to look at Alabama running back Trent Richardson, who ran for over 1600 yards (1679) for an average of 5.9 per carry this past season. Richardson also caught 29 passes for 338 stripes.

The Plain Dealer recently reported that Texas A&M signal caller Ryan Tannehill will work out for the Browns prior to the selection meeting. The 6’4 senior threw for 3744 yards and a completion percentage of 61.6 and 29 touchdowns. Tannehill tossed eight interceptions over the course of his last five games this past year.

The St. Louis Rams, who are picking at the sixth spot, are said to be very high on Oklahoma State wideoutJustin Blackmon. The Terrell Owens-built receiver caught 232 passes for 3304 yards and 38 touchdowns over the past two campaigns. With new offensive coordinator Brad Childress now in the mix in Cleveland, he remembers what Owens did for his Eagle offense during the 2004 season. Blackmon would be a major upgrade to the receiving corps if the Browns decided to land the 6’1, 215-pound pass catcher.

The Browns have addressed the defensive line in free agency by bringing aboard two veteran players inFrostee Rucker and Juqua Parker. I look for Cleveland to keep the pedal to the metal and take advantage of their bevy of late round choices to search for gems on the defensive side of the ball by seeking defensive lineman, corners (to eventually replace an aging Sheldon Brown), and outside linebackers.

The offensive line will be a main focus of the Browns’ brass. Besides Joe Thomas (LT) and Alex Mack (C), the seal brown and burnt orange will look for depth along the line and to find a right tackle for years to come. Cleveland owns two first round draft choices and I would not be surprised to see the pride of the Cuyahoga River take a right tackle with their second or third selections.

Golden's Nuggets: On Vince Young's past and future; Myck Kabongo; T.O.'s newest teammate.

A five-piece order of Nuggets, for your perusal:
Thanks for the emails and social media messages you sent in response to my story Sunday on the dozens of players who the 2005 Texas team sent to the NFL.
While researching the article, I spoke with Roy Williams, whom I consider one of the two greatest receivers to ever play here (Jordan Shipley gets my other vote). Williams left two years before Texas ran the table and beat USC for the 2005 national title, but he did play one season with quarterback Vince Young, the unquestioned man of the hour that championship season.
Young turned out to be one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in college football history, but Williams said he had his doubts about whether Young would make it during their one season together.
"I was a senior, and I'm looking at this guy and I'm saying, ‘This guy can't play on this level,' " Williams said. "I'm playing with him and whenever the No. 1 receiver is not open, he just takes off running. There's no way they can ever win anything with this guy."
But Texas did win with Young. And along the way, he earned the respect of a nation of college football fans.
"It just goes to show the maturation with the kids and the coaches at Texas," Williams said. "Every year they do it."
Speaking of Young, it's surprising that no NFL team has signed him to a free agent contract, since he'd come much cheaper than the reported $58 million he signed for with Tennessee in 2006, $25 million of that in guaranteed greenbacks.
It makes me wonder whether Young is finished in this league. His physical skills are still there, but he hasn't been a picture of confidence over the past couple of years. Still, when you see players like Derek Anderson signing with teams, it becomes a head scratcher.
The questions facing any team interested in Young: Will we get the playmaker who owns a 61-21 record as a starter (dating back to his days at Texas), or will we get the inconsistent performer who has thrown more interceptions (51) than touchdowns (46) in his five NFL seasons?
Young appeared on the NFL Network last week and told NFL.com that he would love to play for his hometown Houston Texans, who face a bit of uncertainty with starter Matt Schaub coming back from foot surgery. It's still puzzling to see the Texans not go after a name free agent to back up Schaub. Surely there's someone better than T.J. Yates available. If anything, Young would sell some tickets.
Former Longhorns receiver Ramonce Taylor just signed a contract with the Allen Wranglers of the IFL, meaning he's now a teammate of Terrell Owens.
"Just signed with the Allen Wranglers. Bout to make plays with T.O." Taylor posted on his Facebook page.
Many look at Taylor and say, "Oh, what could have been." He's one of the top five athletes Mack Brown has ever recruited, in the same class with V.Y. and Jamaal Charles. The only thing that kept Taylor from NFL millions rested between his ears. Let's hope he has found his positive path.
Point guard Myck Kabongo suffered through periods of bad decision-making during his first season at Texas, but he made the correct read Monday when he decided to return for another season. Kabongo isn't ready to play in the NBA, and another year in the Big 12 gives him some time to get stronger against good competition.
You can't blame coach Rick Barnes for being excited to have his point guard back. As for Texas' other guard, J'Covan Brown isn't ready to announce yet, but it would surprise me to see him come back.
We lost a real gem Sunday in famed boxing scribe Bert Sugar, who died at the age of 75 from a heart attack. Sugar was to boxing what Bud Collins is to tennis — an old-school historian respected by the athletes he covered and by writers who were fortunate enough to sit alongside him at major events.
Sugar's trademark fedora and unlit cigar dangling from his lips sometimes overshadowed how brilliant he was. He was a law school graduate and the owner of a rapier wit. The sport and the journalism community will miss him greatly.

Correcting the 5 Biggest Misconceptions About the Philadelphia Eagles.

3. The Eagles Front Office Doesn't Work Well with Drew Rosenhaus .

Every year since the 2005 season, Eagles fans have had a bad feeling in their stomachs each time they hear the name Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus was Terrell Owens agent during that fateful 2005 season in which Owens was nothing more then a distraction and a hindrance to the whole team. Owens was eventually released.
Now, every time a player is represented by Rosenhaus on the Eagles roster and is in the final year of his contract, Eagles fans assume the worst. But since 2005, Rosenhaus has been nothing but professional with the Eagles.
This off-season, the Eagles have been able to re-sign DeSean Jackson and Evan Mathis, and are also in the process of signing LeSean McCoy long-term as well. Both Jackson and Mathis are represented by Rosenhaus, and both players signed very team-friendly deals that made both sides happy. We can expect the same thing with McCoy in the next couple of weeks.
I think both the Eagles front office and Rosenhaus learned a lot of from each other after the 2005 fiasco. We can expect to see a more professional relationship between the two sides for years to come. Rosenhaus is one of the premier sports agents and the Eagles are one of the most well-run NFL teams.

Air Jordan VI – Terrell Owens 2008 Pro Bowl Cleat PE.

We’ve seen the Air Jordan VI brush up against the flossy look once or twice before, with the Air Jordan VI ‘DMP’ and the forthcoming ‘Gold Medal Pack’ version both introducing some hits of gold to the silhouette. This chromed out player exclusive Air Jordan VI cleat made for Terrell Owens’ at the time of the 2008 Pro Bowl blows both of those out of the water though in terms of gaudy metallic looks, a motif broken up only by the hits of navy brought in through the laces and lining to complete the Cowboy look (also notice the lack of branding in compliance with NFL guidelines). Hit the jump to get a close up look at the Air Jordan VI Terrell Owens 2008 Pro Bowl cleat PE and head over to the auction now from cnoriega_2007 on eBay.

Will Terrell Owens play against the Wild on Saturday?

Terrell Owens might play football in Wichita on Friday night.
Or he might not. It’s anybody’s guess.
Owens, a former NFL superstar wide receiver, now plays for and is a part owner of the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. The Wild hosts Allen on Saturday, but no one is sure if Owens will make the trip.
"If I knew, I would tell you, because we would have fans," Wild general manager John Blazek said. "But I don’t want to give any false indication that he’ll be here or not."
No one, except the six-time Pro Bowl receiver himself, has been certain of Owens’ status for any game but the first one this season. He played in the Wranglers’ opener at home against Wichita, and the word originally is that he wouldn’t travel without benefits.
Blazek said the Wild received an e-mail early in the season that requested $20,000 plus traveling accommodations to get Owens to play in Wichita. The Wild won’t pay, and it is unclear if Owens and his representation still have any asking price.
According to Blazek, paying an opposing player is against league rules. Owens played on the road against Colorado and was not paid extra, but two weeks ago in New Mexico he was paid an undisclosed amount by that team’s ownership to appear.
"They didn’t know in Colorado that he was even showing up until he walked in the arena," Blazek said. "I know the owner out there (Tom Wigley) really well and he said, ‘I had no clue, because I didn’t pay a penny. We didn’t count on him and all of a sudden he shows up.’ "
The Wranglers were scheduled to arrive in Wichita on Friday, but all indications were that Owens doesn’t travel with or eat a pregame meal with the team, and his status might not be known until just before kickoff.
Forced to guess, Wichita coach Morris Lolar said he anticipates seeing Owens in uniform.
"I’m just like you, I don’t know," Lolar said. "My gut feeling is that he will be here in Wichita. That’s simply because this is a big game for them. They need to win it and he needs to be a team player for them."
Owens, 38, attempted to play in the NFL last season after suffering a major knee injury but found no suitors. During his 15-year, five-team NFL career, he had 1,078 receptions (fifth on the career list), 15,934 receiving yards (second) and 153 touchdowns (tied for second).
He’s the biggest attraction in the IFL, even though it’s difficult to plan to see him or oppose him.
"I don’t know if their team knows if he makes it," Blazek said. "When we were at Allen, he arrived at 6 o’clock for a 7 o’clock kickoff."

Of Bill Parcells, Bob Knight, Terrell Owens & Kentucky.

ESPN ostensibly hired former college basketball coach Bob Knight to provide analysis and commentary, but after having watched him work games where he mails it in I am convinced he was brought along for autographs.
The man does not know the teams he watches and obviously does no preparation. He sits there saying, "That's a really big bucket right there."
The irony is that he is making what is very likely a fat check working for a network he used to rail against when he was the head coach at Indiana.
Now he has created a "controversy" when talking about this NCAA tournament field. He won't say "Kentucky" when talking about Kentucky; rather he says, "The team from the SEC."
Very clever, coach.
Knight's feelings towards UK and coach John Calipari are well documented - basically, he thinks his teams are not loaded with student athletes. Say this for Bob, his teams did graduate. Now, he was a horses rear and behaved like a spoiled, enabled, boorish 8-year-old but ... that's a different rant.
This no mentioning by name trick is not new. In fact, one of Knight's closer friends used to do this often.
When Bill Parcells, who has been friends with Knight since their days at Army, coached the Dallas Cowboys he routinely did not call Terrell Owens by name. Instead, he said, "The Player".
This is their way of saying they don't approve of, or like, said subject.
And it's also another way of a pair of older guys proving they are always young at heart.

Ice look to upset Wranglers.

The Colorado Ice look to get back to the .500 mark today when they host the Allen Wranglers in an Indoor Football League game.

Colorado (1-2) opened the season with a road loss, won at home and last week lost on the road to the Tri-Cities Fever. Allen (3-0), meanwhile, is just one of three undefeated teams in the 17-team IFL.

The Wranglers made national headlines before the season with the signing of former NFL star Terrell Owens. Owens has played in two of the Wranglers' three games - one at home and one on the road - and has eight catches for 103 yards and four touchdowns.

It is not known if Owens will play today. He had announced several days before the Wranglers' trip to Rio Grande, N.M., that he would play against the Stars, but no similar announcement has come this week.

Colorado is coming off a 64-50 loss at Tri-Cities, which is tied with Allen for first place in the IFL's Intense Conference. The Ice ranks fourth in the IFL in scoring (53.7 points a game); the Wranglers are fifth (47.7).

Allen has the league's best defensive unit, surrendering 28.3 points a game. The Nebraska Danger and Chicago Slaughter share second at 36 points a game, 7.7 points more than the Wranglers. The Ice give up 49 points a contest, 12th in the league.

Ice quarterback David Knighton ranks eighth in the league in quarterback ranking at 101 a game. He is 11th among QBs with 165.3 yards a game and has thrown 11 touchdown passes and two interceptions.

The Wranglers' Darius Fudge is sixth in the league in rushing with 105 yards. Knighton is fifth with 114 and teammate Tobias Robinson seventh with 92.

T.O. likely a no-show.

While most of the state of Colorado is waiting to see if Peyton Manning is coming to the state or not, it looks as if one former NFL star won't be making the trip to Loveland this weekend.

The Colorado Ice host the Allen Wranglers on Sunday at the Budweiser Events Center (3 p.m.), and the Ice said Wednesday they don't expect Allen co-owner and player Terrell Owens to be on the game roster. Owens, a standout NFL receiver known as much for his personality as his play, missed all of last season recovering from a knee injury. He became part owner of the Wranglers in the offseason and signed a contract to play home games for the team. But last week, Owens played on the road against New Mexico, though it was widely reported the Stars' owner made special travel concessions for the outspoken wideout to attend, which Allen owner Jon Frankel confirmed to The Dallas Morning News. He would not comment, however, if Owens was paid an appearance fee for showing up.

Colorado owner Tom Wigley would not comment on if Allen requested certain things to make Owens available for the trip, saying only: "I will not get involved in compensating a player outside of league rules that I can't do the same and pay my own players. I will not compensate another player I cannot, by league rule, compensate my own players."

The Ice are trying to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network on Sunday as part of a Community Cares Day in conjunction with Sam's Club and hoped Owens might make the trip. In contacting Allen, they were told the team had no plans of suiting up Owens this weekend.
The Ice believe -- and Wigley is on the compliance board for the IFL -- that offering separate travel arrangements for a player could be in violation of league rules. With that, general manager Collins Sanders said the team will not arrange special accommodations for opposing players.

"It is our belief that there may be possible infractions for doing so," Sanders said. "It has not been ruled on definitively, and we're not willing to take that risk."

But IFL Commissioner Tommy Benizio — who happened to resign his post Wednesday to take a job as part owner and president of Allen — said offering travel arrangements for an opposing player is not against league rules, as it is not considered compensation. Benizio admitted when the rule was written, no one foresaw the type of circumstances Owens’ fame brings to the league.

New-look Steelhawks set to impress at home.

Never accuse the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks of being content with the status quo.
As the Indoor Football League team prepared last week for today's 4 p.m. home opener at Stabler Arena against the Bloomington (Ill.) Edge, it made a major trade in an effort to upgrade its offense.
Coming off a disappointing 32-13 loss to the Cedar Rapids Titans, the Steelhawks went out and acquired a star quarterback in 2010 IFL League MVP Bryan Randall.
Randall is coming from the Allen (Tex.) Wranglers where he hooked up with Terrell Owens — yes, that Terrell Owens — for three touchdowns in a Week 1 game.
Having the poise and experience to make quick decisions in the condensed brand of football that is the indoor game is essential and Randall possesses those qualities.
Likewise, it's clear that the Steelhawks are going to do everything they can to avoid another dismal 4-10 season like the one they endured in their inaugural 2011 campaign.
"Complacency and mediocrity are not part of our vocabulary," said Steelhawks first-year coach Chris Thompson. "We needed to do something offensively. Bryan just got into town and began practicing with us. I think he and Dale Fink give us a great combination at the quarterback position."
Thompson said he expects Randall to see some action in the home opener, which is expected to attract the biggest crowd in the Steelhawks' two-year history, somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,500 to 4,000.
Randall was a star at Virginia Tech where he was ACC's Player of the Year in 2004 and had opportunities in the NFL with the Falcons, Buccaneers and Steelers and with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
Playing in the IFL for the Richmond Revolution in 2010, Randall threw for 58 touchdowns and more than 2,000 yards. He also ran for 12 touchdowns in helping the Revolution post a 13-1 record.
Going after Randall is an indication that the Steelhawks intend to win, and win immediately.
"The mission of our front office and coaching staff this year was to show the rest of the IFL that the Steelhawks will be a force to be reckoned with this season," Thompson said. "By acquiring a special talent like Bryan, we're showing our fans and our loyal partners that we intend to make good on our efforts."
Thompson's team is 1-1, which is the same record the Steelhawks had at this point last season.
But the 2011 Steelhawks lost its home opener in Week 3 and seven straight games overall before snapping out of the doldrums with a late three-game win streak.
Thompson said this is a different year and a different team with much higher expectations.
"Our defense has been doing a heck of a job so far holding other teams down, but our special teams need work and our offense hasn't played as well as it's capable of playing," Thompson said. "I've been coaching this offensive system for many years and we have the talent. We just have to come together."
The team has upgraded at most positions. One of the new stars is former Oregon defensive back Marvin Johnson, who played in the BCS national title game against Auburn just 14 months ago.
The Steelhawks also feature a distinct local flavor with three former Lehigh University players — John Kennedy, Jarard Cribbs and Matt Cohen —expected to see action on defense as well as Kutztown University product Chris Medina.
Thompson said it's important to do well on opening night when so many people will be sampling the team.
"People are going to see that we're a different organization, a different football team from last year," said Thompson, who beat the Steelhawks four times last season as the coach of the Reading Express. "We want to get our fans excited and the whole Lehigh Valley excited about this team."
Several things are being planned to create extra excitement today on what will be the first of seven home dates.
Mike Clark, the team's executive vice president, said the team has upgraded its promotions and in-game entertainment.
Before the game today, fans are invited to come out and tailgate with live music from the Birds of Prey.
A special halftime performance will feature Drummers with Attitude, a local bucket-drumming group, and lots of prizes and giveaways are planned throughout the game.
"We're pumped up and very excited as an organization," Clark said. "We're definitely expecting our biggest crowd ever and looking forward to our biggest night ever. The phones have been ringing off the hook and we don't expect them to stop until 4 o'clock on Sunday. We had about 3,100 for our opener last year and we're definitely going to top that."
Realizing you only get one chance to make a first impression, Clark said he's hoping that people will like what they see from the time they arrive until they head for the exits.
"We've made a lot of changes and we feel it's like night and day, the difference between this year and last year," Clark said. "I have to give a lot of shout outs to our staff which has really worked hard and quadrupled our number of partners and doubled the number of season-ticket holders. We've put a lot of work into make sure this is a great family experience."

Crosby, Ovechkin are on Chad Ochocinco’s radar.

If you look at a player’s media attention to talent ratio, Chad Ochocinco was once like Terrell Owens – worthy of all the buzz even with the headaches.
Now he’s a little more like Sean Avery -  plenty of hot air, few results – but it’s tough to deny the inherent intrigue of a human who responded to a Sportscenter-appointed nickname by changing his actual name. (Granted, it’s not Ron Artest weird, but Mr. 8-5 blazed a weird trail, unless you give credit to “The Ultimate Warrior.”)
With all that in mind, one cannot help but be tickled a bit by Ochocinco Tweeting to ask his followers for some differences between Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. EJ Hradek gave his own take on what separates the two. Either way, it’s charming to see Ochocinco’s near-child-like wonder about hockey, even if we might want to introduce him to the likes of Pavel DatsyukClaude GirouxSteven Stamkos and many more. (His “introduction” to Evgeni Malkin was kind of adorable, by the way.)

Wednesday 7 March 2012

Terrell Owens of the Allen Wranglers will play in New Mexico against the Stars.

Terrell Owens will be uniform for the Allen Wranglers as they take on the New Mexico Stars at Santa Ana Star Center on Sunday, March 11 th and 4:05pm CST.
While talking to the co-owner of the Allen Wranglers Jon Frankel, he stated about Owens...
It will be a game to game basis if he will be in the line-up for the Wranglers on the road. He will be in uniform for all the home game at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.
In the home opener for the Wranglers Owens had three receptions, three touchdowns, for 53 yards in their victory of 50 - 30 over the Wichita Wild.
Owens was not in uniform for the first road game against the Everett Raptors however, his contract does not require him to travel or play in away games. The Wranglers beat the Raptors pretty handily 48-27.
The New Mexico Stars are different. This will be their toughest opponent to date. Their ability to score in the second half will be what the Wranglers will be trying to prevent. The Stars will be well rested as well as they are coming off a bye week.
The Wranglers are in first place in the Intense Conference of the IFL with a 2-0 record. The New Mexico Stars are 1-0, because of that bye.

Allen Wranglers turn up the defense and crush the Everett Raptors 48-27.

The Allen Wranglers, without Terrell Owens, get the victory 48-27 in the Pacific Northwest over the Everett Raptors on Thursday night, in IFL action.
The Wranglers were very aggressive defensively against a team, in the Raptors, that scored seven TDS in the prior week.
The defense was lead by Frankie Solomon Jr. who had two INTs and five tackles. He also had two kickoff returns for 46 yards.
Mike Landry, on the defensive line, was very active with three batted balls, as well as Aaron Turner turned in a sack for the Wranglers defense.
Tuff Jonson was ejected from the game, on a play that saw him ending up with the ball, and jawing turned into Johnson chucking the football at a player for the Raptors on the bench.
Tonight the offense started off sluggish, however the 2011 IFL MVP Bryan Randall did lead the Wranglers on a 9 play 43 yard drive for a TD, and a one play pass play to Antuan Bloom for a touchdown. He finished the night with 7 of 11 passing for 94 yards and 2 touchdowns and one interception.

Miles Austin on Recovering From Hamstring Injury, Friendship with Terrell Owens and Sam Hurd’s Situation.

If there’s one play that epitomized the Dallas Cowboys season, it was an incomplete pass thrown to Miles Austin against the New York Giants in the rivals’ December 11th matchup. The Cowboys had taken a commanding 34-22 lead on the New York Giants with 5:41 remaining in the contest.

The Dallas defense proceeded to crumble as Eli Manning threw a touchdown to Jake Ballard with three minutes remaining. On the resulting possession Miles Austin claimed to have a lost ball in the lights in which he was wide open on a big 3rd down pass. If Austin catches that pass he looked to have been ticketed for a touchdown and instead it resulted in a failed opportunity to put a team away. The rest was history. Who would have known the Giants would go on to win Super Bowl XLVI gaining momentum from this game?

Austin feels the hamstring injury that had hampered him all of last year is fully healed. No.19 looks to stay on the field for all of next season.

Miles Austin joined KTCK Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket with BaD Radio to discuss his life changing since he became an elite receiver, the gift he bought his parents with his big contract, his relationship with Terrell Owens when he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys, the status of his hamstring injury, any predictions for next season and Sam Hurd being indicted on federal drug conspiracy and possession charges.

Has your life changed at all since becoming a big deal?
“I don’t think I am a big deal. It really hasn’t much to be honest.”
What did you do when you got the big contract?
“I bought my parents a house.”

What’s your relationship like with Terrell Owens? Are you guys buddies?
“Yeah he works hard and continues to work hard. We haven’t spoken too often. [Host: Was it a good time working with T.O. when he was here?] Absolutely. Just the fact that he was such a prominent receiver at the time and continued to work hard at that level. It was very beneficial. He would talk to us in our routes and the way you ran this and come out of it this way. The line of communication was open and I thought that was very important. Not only, but with Terry Glenn at that time and Patrick Crayton and all the receivers would be communicating with each other and I thought it helped all of us out.”

Are you fully healed? How is your hamstring and all of that?
“It feels good. It feels good. [Host: Is that something that bothered you when you came back last season?] It feels good. Anytime. Yeah. Absolutely. It’s not an issue.”

Want to put any prediction on yardage this year?
“Absolutely not. I am going to guarantee that we are going to work as hard as we can every day.”

How tight are you and Sam Hurd these days?
“My prayers go out for him and his family.”

You can buy one of Terrell Owens’ foreclosed homes in Dallas.

Despite his meteoric rise to stardom in the Indoor Football League, we all know that Terrell Owens is no stranger to financial problems. If you're looking for a place to live in the Dallas area, though, Owens' loss can be your gain.
Via DallasNews.com, Owens is facing foreclosure on a couple of properties in the Dallas area, including the condo with this lovely and accommodating kitchen area. I don't know if the fruit and/or iron are included.
Here's the listing on Realtor.com. There's also a photo available of T.O.'s former toilet, if for some reason, you'd have an interest in such a thing. The whole thing is $279,000.
With more square footage and a better price, the other property is a cute, two-bedroom town home with lovely views of downtown and a gigantic dandelion on one wall. The asking price on that one is $239,900.
Why Owens needed two (or more, who knows?) places to live in the Dallas area, I'm not entirely sure. I hope he's settled in somewhere else in the area as he lights it up for the Allen Wranglers. He's making at least $250,000 for this season and also has an ownership stake in the team. He'll have his iron back in no time.
